The Best Time to Buy Electronics in India

"Wait for the next sale" isn't specific enough advice — different electronics categories bottom out at different points in the year, for different reasons. Here's the pattern for each.

Smartphones

Best window: Right before/during the September–October festival sales, and again 2–3 months after a new flagship launch

Flagship phones get their steepest early cuts once a successor is announced or rumoured — a 6–9 month old flagship is often discounted harder than a brand-new mid-ranger.

Laptops

Best window: Festival season (Sep–Oct) for consumer models; back-to-school (June–July) for budget/student laptops

Component-driven pricing (RAM, SSD costs) means laptop prices move less dramatically than phones, but festival-season bundles (extra RAM, bags, accessories) often add more real value than the sticker discount.

Televisions

Best window: Festival season is by far the strongest — TVs see some of the largest festival-only price cuts of any category

Large-size and smart-TV segments are extremely competitive between brands during the festival window specifically, since TVs are a high-visibility "hero" category for marketplaces.

Large appliances (AC, fridge, washing machine)

Best window: Just before summer (March–April) for ACs and fridges; festival season for washing machines and general appliances

AC and fridge demand spikes with summer, so counter-intuitively, buying just before peak season (not during) often beats the festival-season price for cooling appliances specifically.

Small appliances & kitchen gadgets

Best window: Festival season and Republic Day sales both work well

Lower price volatility than large appliances — the gap between "sale" and "regular" price is usually smaller, so timing matters less here than for phones or TVs.

The pattern behind all of it: new launches push old stock down

Across almost every electronics category, the single biggest price driver isn't the calendar — it's whatever the manufacturer is about to launch next. Retailers and brands discount outgoing models to clear channel inventory before a successor arrives, which is why last year's flagship phone or last season's TV model line often drops harder, and stays lower for longer, than this year's brand-new equivalent ever will during its own first few months on shelves.

Don't buy on the sale date — buy on the price

The safest way to actually capture these windows isn't to remember every sale's start date — it's to track the specific product you want and get notified the moment its price genuinely hits a new low, whichever week that happens to fall in. See our guide on India's festival sale calendar for the exact sale dates each year, and set a price alert on PriceTrail for anything you're planning to buy — we'll tell you the moment it drops, sale or no sale.
